The basic premise of this blog is far from new, and is based on the fact that I need to expand my cinematic horizons.
Many people have embarked on a similar process, and I don't imagine that mine will be any more insightful or revealing than anybody else's.
Simply put, I intend to watch a list of 'great films' and I thought it would be useful, if only from my own point of view, to note down my thoughts and reactions as the process evolves.
The List
There are many lists of 'great' movies out there, but the one that I have selected is Roger Ebert's 'Great Movies' - the first 100. I don't think that this list in necessarily any better or worse than any of the other ones, but it is the first one that felt right to me, as it includes many films that I already consider to be great, many that I know are supposed to be great - but I have not seen, and some that I have never heard of.
My copy of the list, including links to my comments and Roger Ebert's reviews is here
Credits
This project was inspired by a few things. Primarily by David Gilmour's book 'The Film Club' and also by Captain James Amazing's Cimematic Escapades, where he is attempting to watch the Empire Top 500 - quite a challenge!
The title of the blog came from a friend on Monochrome who when discussing the project asked me how 'well filmed' I am (as opposed to 'well read' in reference to books).
